Happy Friendship Day! In case you’re not familiar with all those national day celebrations, we celebrate Friendship Day on every first Sunday of August which happens to be on the 6th of this month.
Let this Friendship Day be a tribute to that friend who tirelessly listens to your endless rhetoric when you get on a tangent. Cheers to that kind-hearted buddy who feeds you after you spent your whole allowance on fangirl stuff or a cool gadget. And above all, cheers to that true gem who sticks around no matter how messy life is. 'Cause let’s admit it, life would never be as wonderful as it is without friends.
If you haven’t decided yet on how you guys would spend that special day, don’t worry, we got your back. Below are some cool and fun ideas on how you can turn that day into a memorable one with your best buds.
Binge-watch a TV series
No movie tickets? No problem. You can always check out some streaming websites and choose that TV series that you all love. It’s the perfect day to revisit those Friends, Dawson’s Creek or Gilmore Girls episodes that struck you the most and snap you out of the teenage or midlife crisis. Or why not backtrack all the way to Game of Thrones Season One when most of the notable characters are still alive. Watching Ned Stark back on screen would be awesome, you know.
Karaoke with Friends
What’s better than going out with the whole gang and spending the night singing your hearts out to music you’ve grown together? Got a friendship song? Go ahead and grab the microphone. No one would judge you if you’re singing off keys. After all, you are with these people who would less likely to judge you. I bet they can also tolerate your not-so-perfect singing prowess.
If you’re on a budget, plan a cookout on one of your friend’s place. Throw in some flavorful meaty kebabs, salads on the sides, no bake treats, a bottle of wine or any drinks and you’re all set. It’s not those tedious dishes that make the day memorable. Instead, it’s all about the stories and laughter you shared around the table that’ll make it special. Don’t forget a game or two to liven up the day.
Picnic with a Twist
Go out and enjoy the greenery and fresh air with your friends. Agree ahead on a good place to have a picnic. Make it extraordinary by watching the sunrise or sunset together and capturing beautiful photos with a breathtaking backdrop. Then, by all means, turn off all your devices and place it in your bags. Come on, its Friendship Day!! You don’t have to post it right away on social media and exchange comments with your “virtual” friends. The awesome ones are right in front of you. Make REAL memories!
Get lost on the road with your besties and visit places you never thought you’d go to. There are tons of beautiful places waiting to be discovered. And what’s a road trip without some food escapades? Stop by on some local dining areas and excite your taste buds with sumptuous meals. Food always makes any friendship stronger, right? Now go grab some drinks to wash down the meat.
Plant a Friendship Tree
Want to be a little sentimental? Join a plant for a cause program or get a good place where you can plant your own tree/s that you and your Amigas and Amigos can revisit years later. It’d be really nice watching a tree grow year after year while revisiting crazy good memories along with it. Ditch the friendship bracelet and go with this. Make it a new friendship spot where you’d hang out every Friendship Day or basically on any day when you feel like you just want to.
If you want to go all out and have fun outdoors, try a scavenger hunt game to test your coordination and team spirit. It’s usually popular during any company’s team building but it’d be a complete fun if you do it with friends. This is also a good way to strengthen your bond if you don’t see each other that often.
Recreate Old Photos
Have you ever browsed online and bumped on those recreated old group photos placed side by side? If you’ve been best pals for decades or even years, go ahead and take out those memorable (and sometimes weird-looking) old photos dated at least five years ago and recreate it with little modification. You’d definitely put a smile on your face once you see how you guys transformed over the years. Print it out and get everyone in the group a copy of it and make it a tradition to reshoot the same photo every 5 years or so. It’s a gem!
If above-mentioned doesn’t fit your tight schedules, a simple call would totally make it worthwhile. Let them know that they mean the world to you and how blessed you are for crossing paths with awesome people like them. No matter how big or small your plans are, it will always be appreciated. And it doesn’t have to be celebrated on every August. You can make every day a Happy Friendship Day!
